Sky New Zealand lands Rugby League World Cup rights

Pay-television broadcaster Sky New Zealand has acquired rights to this year’s Rugby League World Cup, which the country will co-host alongside Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Sky will broadcast live coverage of all 28 matches from the tournament, which runs from October 27 to December 2.

Sky will also deliver a comprehensive mobile offering to its customers.

In addition, Sky will undertake the host broadcaster for international television coverage of all tournament games played in New Zealand.

Sky’s crew were also used in Rio de Janeiro to broadcast the rugby sevens, the open-water swim and triathlon events during the 2016 summer Olympic Games to an international audience.

Commercial broadcaster Seven was last year confirmed as the host broadcaster for the World Cup in Australia.
