Sina and Tencent seal Uefa club football rights

Chinese internet companies Sina and Tencent have acquired rights for the Uefa Champions League and Europa League European club football tournaments, according to the Yutang Sports news service.

The rights will cover three seasons, from 2015-16 to 2017-18.

The Sina deal includes live coverage of the Uefa Super Cup season-opening fixture, according to Yutang Sports, which cited a report on the Sina website.

Sina has acquired rights for 78 Champions League matches per season and 41 Europa League games per season. The rights will be exploited on online and mobile platforms.

Tencent will show live coverage of 146 Champions League matches, including play-offs, and 205 Europa League games per season. Tencent will also show highlights and magazine programmes.

Last month, LeTV Sports, a sports-rights venture operated by Chinese IPTV operator LeTV, agreed a three-season deal, from 2015-16 to 2017-18, for rights to the Champions League and Europa League.
