San Diego State extends with Nike

The athletics division of San Diego State University has extended its kit partnership with US sportswear firm Nike.

The new long-term deal will run until the end of the 2023-24 season. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but San Diego State said the new deal significantly increases its promotional money from Nike.

The company will continue to serve as the university’s exclusive provider of uniforms, footwear, apparel and equipment for all 19 of its athletics programs.

San Diego State’s director of athletics, John David Wicker, told the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper that the university does not receive any cash payment from Nike. The newspaper reported that Nike would provide the school with $1.2m (€1.1m) worth of products every year.

Wicker said the increased level of apparel provided by Nike through the new partnership would allow the university to spend more elsewhere. “It frees up operational dollars to spread to the teams through travel budgets, recruiting budgets and things like that,” Wicker told the Union-Tribune.

Nike has been the university’s primary apparel provider since 2006.
