Samsung stays close to home with Gwangju 2015 partnership

Electronics giant Samsung has reached an agreement to become a top-tier partner of the Gwangju 2015 Universiade multi-sport event.

The Korean-based multi-national will provide consumer electronics to the university sports showpiece as a global premium partner.

Among around 9,000 appliances, Samsung will supply air conditioners, televisions, refrigerators, computers and mobile phones to major venues and the athletes' village.

Samsung Electronics runs production lines in Gwangju City and hopes the sponsorship can boost the local economy.

Yoon Boo-keun of Samsung Electronics said: "Gwangju is strategically important for Samsung Electronics as it is a city that fosters the company's research and development and main production lines. The Gwangju Universiade will help the city leap to become a world class city."
