Russian broadcaster signs up for World Figure Skating Championships

Russian state-controlled commercial broadcaster Channel One has acquired rights to the forthcoming 2018 World Figure Skating Championships.

Channel One’s commitment to cover the event, which will be held in the Italian city of Milan from March 19-25, comes after a strong showing from the Olympic Athletics from Russia team at the recent winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

The OAR team won three medals in figure skating at the Olympics, including a headline-making gold for 15-year-old Alina Zagitova (pictured), who edged her compatriot Evgenia Medvedeva into silver-medal position in the ladies’ singles.

However, the prospect of an immediate rematch has been denied after Medvedeva yesterday (Tuesday) pulled out of the World Championships due to a foot injury.
