Russian athletes issued with life bans over Sochi 2014 doping

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued life bans from the Olympics to two Russian athletes, including a gold medallist at Sochi 2014, in the first sanctions to be handed down following the investigation into an alleged state-backed doping system in place at Russia’s winter Olympics.

The IOC said cross-country skier Alexander Legkov (pictured), who won an individual gold medal and relay silver, has been disqualified from all his events in Sochi. A second Russian cross-country skier, Evgeniy Belov, has also been disqualified. He did not win any medals at the Games.
