Proximus makes wide-ranging commitment to esports in Belgium

Belgian pay-television broadcaster Proximus has unveiled a major commitment to esports in the country through a three-pronged strategy incorporating media rights, the formation of new competitions and sponsorship.

The initiative will revolve around strategic partnerships with esports organisation ESL and the Pro League, the top division of domestic club football.

The ESL Proximus Championships will launch with competitions focused on the League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive games. Proximus and the Pro League have also signed an exclusive agreement for an esports football project. Further details are set to be disclosed concerning this initiative in the coming weeks, but it will launch for the 2018-19 season.

Starting in June, EsportTV from ESL will be available across all Proximus platforms for all of the company’s television customers. Proximus will also provide esports content through a new website and social media platforms.

Finally, Proximus has said it will also sponsor a host of professional and amateur esports events in Belgium. Various projects are currently being evaluated, but the first deal has already been signed.

Proximus has become an official partner of the Belgian eDevils outfit, the official team of the Belgian Football Association (URBSFA/KBVB).
