The Premier League launches tender process in 50 markets

Last week, the English Premier League sent out three invitation to tenders (ITTs) covering a total of 50 countries in: the Caribbean, Central and South America, and German-speaking countries in Europe.

The ITT in German-speaking territories was sent on September 7, and covers Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Bids are due on October 1 and will cover rights for three seasons, from 2019-20 to 2021-22. Rights are currently held by Perform-owned OTT platform DAZN in a three-season deal, from 2016-17 to 2018-19.

Two further ITTs, for rights in the same 2019-22 cycle, were sent to interested parties in Central and South America and the Caribbean, with bids due in the second week of October.

In Central and South America bids can be for either territory or for both individually. Rights are currently held by pay-television broadcasters DirecTV Latin America and Sky México. DirecTV exploits the rights in South America, and Sky in Central America and the Dominican Republic.

Premier League rights in the Caribbean are currently held by telco Cable & Wireless Communications, which secured the rights in a competitive tender process that saw the value of Premier League rights increase by about 860 per cent.
