Polish commercial and pay-television broadcaster Polsat has been given the green light to launch a new channel dedicated to esports.
Poland’s National Broadcasting Council, the KRRiT, has awarded Polsat 10-year licences for three new channels, one of which will be entitled Polsat Games.
Polsat Games is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of this year. Maciej Stec, member of the Telewizji Polsat management board, told the Wirtualne Media news website that Polsat has plans beyond forming an “ordinary” television channel, adding that it will be implemented across multiple platforms.
Stec said: “The esport segment interests us because we see how engaging it is. This project is connected not only with television."
