Paris 2024 open to esports inclusion

Paris 2024 co-chairman Tony Estanguet has said he would be open to esports being added to the programme of events for the French capital’s staging of the summer Olympic Games.

In April, esports was confirmed as a medal competition for the 2022 edition of the Asian Games multi-sport event and Estanguet (pictured) has said he would be willing to speak to representatives from the gaming industry over the possibility of a similar arrangement for the Olympics.

The path is clear for Paris to stage the 2024 Olympics after the city’s only challenger for the Games, Los Angeles, last week reached an agreement with the International Olympic Committee to host the 2028 edition of the event. The 2024 and 2028 Games will be simultaneously awarded at the IOC Session in Lima, Peru next month.
