Ohio University’s Master of Sports Administration has secured top position in the 2016 SportBusiness International Postgraduate Sports Course Rankings.

It is the second year in a row, and the fourth time in five years, that the programme has topped the list. Ohio’s alumni were highly successful in securing full-time employment in the sports industry after completing their course, and expressed strong satisfaction with the quality of teaching, leading to high scores for the Masters in the two most important metrics.

The rankings, now in their fifth year, attract entries from postgraduate sports management courses around the world. Only postgraduate-level courses that are 100-per-cent related to the business and administration of sport, and have been running for at least three consecutive years, are considered. Alumni of the courses are surveyed on topics including whether they secured employment within the sports industry after completing the course, and their views on the quality of teaching.

Ohio completed a clean sweep of the rankings’ awards this year, coming top overall, top among American courses, and also being ranked top course by graduates. It shares the Course Leaders’ choice top ranking with the University of Massachusetts Amherst, with both receiving the same number of votes from course leaders.

Commenting on Ohio’s success, Norm O'Reilly, Chair of the Department of Sports Administration at the university, said: “As sport management at Ohio University turns 50 this year, what better way to celebrate than to again have our signature MSA program ranked No.1 globally by SportBusiness International?

“The pride of our alumni – more than 1,300 MSA and more than 3,500 from all our programmes – is evident each year these rankings come out, with the positive feedback and expressions of satisfaction we received from around the world.

“Indeed, to be at the top of hundreds of strong sport management graduate programs around the world for the fourth time in five years is a true honour, one which we do not take lightly and one which pushes us to improve our quality year over year.”

The top European course in 2016 is Coventry University’s MSc in Sport Management, ahead of the International Centre for Sport Studies’ Fifa Master programme in second place, and the University of Stirling’s MSc Sport Management in third.

The full rankings, with scoring for top 25 universities, the top 10 American courses, the top 10 European courses, the top 10 ‘graduates’ choice’ courses and the top 10 ‘course leaders’ choice’ courses, will be contained in a special supplement in the July edition of SportBusiness International magazine, published June 30, 2016.
