NHL teams up with Great Clips for Stanley Cup campaign

Great Clips has agreed a deal to become the official hair salon of the NHL ice hockey league.

Great Clips, which has 4,300 salons throughout the United States and Canada, has signed the deal with the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association to coincide with the end-of-season Stanley Cup playoffs.

Great Clips will launch the LegendHairy Greats of the NHL campaign, which will feature an online poll encouraging fans to vote for their favourite hockey hairstyles among players such as Brent Burns (pictured), Cal Clutterbruck, Jamie Benn, James Neal and Chris Thorburn.

The campaign will run during the playoffs, culminating in the Stanley Cup Final in June. It will feature head-to-head matchups between players, along with individual players’ hairstyle evolutions, with fans encouraged to use the #HockeyHair hashtag on social media.

As part of the agreement, Great Clips salons across the US and Canada will support the campaign and encourage their customer base to participate through in-salon signage and messaging through its online check-in app. The campaign will also be promoted during live broadcasts of the playoffs, at venues and on the league’s social media channels. Great Clips will soon announce a line-up of ambassadors who will help promote the campaign.

“When most think of hockey, they think of ‘hockey hair,’ making the NHL partnership the perfect place for Great Clips to connect with its target consumers,” Great Clips chief executive Steve Hockett said.

“We wanted to join forces with the NHL to not only highlight some of the best players in the league, but to also have some fun with those legendary hairstyles that the fans have come to know and love. We look forward to the results of our online poll during the most exciting few weeks of the sport.”
