NFL to discuss DAZN coverage issues in Canada

The NFL has said it is in close contact with DAZN after the OTT platform endured technical problems during its coverage in Canada of the opening of the 2017-18 season of the American football league.

DAZN customers in Canada have reported a number of issues during the platform’s coverage of the pre-season campaign, as well as the start of the regular-season schedule this past weekend, according to the National Post. One of the problems included the Indianapolis Colts v Los Angeles Rams game on Sunday not being available at the start of the game on the DAZN application.

DAZN, which has rights in Canada under a five-year deal, from 2017-18 to 2021-22, told the newspaper yesterday (Monday) that it is focusing on “fixing the problems.”

The NFL’s vice-president of international media and business development, Michael Markovich, said: “We are aware of the issues that our fans may have faced this past week / weekend and apologise for the inadequate service. We are absolutely committed to working with DAZN to provide our fans with the NFL experience that they deserve.

“We are urgently assessing the information and data from the weekend… With a full weekend of games behind us, we will… define the right next steps to best serve our Canadian fans.”

Markovich added to the Toronto Sun: “Canada is the most important international market we have. We’re aware of the concerns about DAZN. We’re in close contact with them. We take the fan experience incredibly seriously and we expect the same from our partners.”
