A new organisation has been established which aims to inject fresh ideas into the sport of bowls.

The International Bowls Corporation (IBC) said it will seek to move away from the traditional image of bowls by making games shorter, eliminating the dress code and getting spectators involved.

The IBC said it has formed a world ranking system for singles and pairs, as well as introducing new game formats designed to launch sponsorship-backed major events across the world.

The first event to be held by the IBC will be staged at the Desborough club in the English county of Northamptonshire on July 29. The IBC UK Open will be open to bowlers worldwide.

The IBC said all games will be live streamed on social media platforms and via a dedicated IBC channel.

IBC co-founder Chris Aitken said: “The IBC will embrace feedback from bowlers through our various social media channels, whether it's good, bad or indifferent. We want to talk to bowlers, so many have some excellent ideas and concepts to help keep our game moving forward but don't get heard.

“At the IBC we want to breathe some new life into our sport and capture the imagination of bowlers and non-bowlers alike, so we want to hear from any organisations, individuals and clubs who are interested in getting involved with the IBC.”
