MotoGP signs European rights deals

Viasat, the pay-television operator run by multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster Modern Times Group, has extended a rights agreement in Scandinavia and the Baltic region for the MotoGP motorcycling series, while international sports broadcaster Eurosport has acquired rights in Romania to the championship.

Viasat will continue to broadcast MotoGP action in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania via the Viasat Motor Channel and through the Viaplay video-streaming service.

The three-year agreement covers the 2017 to 2019 seasons.

Viasat will also add the Red Bull Rookies Cup and the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup series to its motorcycling portfolio as part of an expanded agreement with Dorna Sports, MotoGP’s commercial rights-holder.

Meanwhile, Eurosport will broadcast all MotoGP races in Romania via the Eurosport 1 channel. Qualifying and practice sessions will also be shown live or delayed on the channel, with all sessions to be made available via the Eurosport Player live and on-demand digital service.

The new exclusive rights agreement covers the same three-season period, from 2017 to 2019.
