MLS to embrace virtual reality for season finale

The Fox Sports division of US network Fox has announced that it will broadcast live coverage of Major League Soccer’s championship game in virtual reality.

Fox Sports will work with virtual reality company LiveLike to show the game in the format between Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders on December 10.

Viewers can choose to watch from any of five camera angles with or without a VR headset, as well as view a ‘virtual suite’ for access to team details and live stats.

The broadcast will also include a ‘magic window’ experience for iOS and Android devices, as well as fully immersive VR on cardboard and Samsung Gear VR.

In addition, iOS users can access a first-of-its-kind VR reply feature and rewind the game in 30-second increments, as far back as 30 minutes, with a choice of different camera angles.

Fans can view VR coverage by downloading the Fox Sports VR application and signing in with their television provider credentials.

German automotive manufacturer Audi has signed up as presenting sponsor of the VR broadcast.
