Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred has said the North American league is hopeful of staging regular-season games in Europe in 2019.
The league has already held games in Japan, Australia and Mexico but Europe remains an untapped market.
Manfred (pictured) said in January 2016 that the league was “working hard” on the prospect of staging regular-season games in London in 2017, but the plans never came to fruition.
Manfred feels the time is now right to revisit the idea. “It’s something we’d really like to do in 2019,” he said, according to the Associated Press news agency.
“I can’t tell you we are going to do it. I can’t give you a percentage, but we do think it’s time, whether it’s 2019 or shortly thereafter, that we play in Europe.”
