MedStar steps up support of Washington teams with new MSE deal

Non-profit healthcare organisation MedStar Health has enhanced its partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment by taking on naming rights to training facilities used by a number of MSE-operated sports teams.

MedStar will sponsor the facilities used by NHL ice hockey team the Washington Capitals, women’s WNBA basketball outfit the Washington Mystics, men’s NBA franchise the Washington Wizards, NBA G League side the Capital City Go-Go, and Washington Wizards District Gaming, which competes in the NBA2K esports league.

The Capitals’ training complex will become the MedStar Capitals Iceplex, while the soon-to-open practice facility that will be used by the Wizards, Mystics and Go-Go will become the MedStar Wizards Performance Center. Wizards District Gaming’s facility will become the MedStar Wizards District Gaming Studio.

MedStar will also retain its position as the official medical provider of the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, Go-Go, Wizards DG, Washington Valor and Baltimore Brigade. The company will also continue to serve as the official training camp and practice jersey patch partner of the Capitals and Wizards.

Under the expanded agreement, MedStar will work with MSE to create a new medical partnership model, through which a Medical Council will be established to assess best practices and apply medical training techniques to MSE teams. Six health-related public awareness campaigns will also be launched by the two parties.

“The evolution and expansion of this exciting agreement, the breadth and scope of which is truly unique in health care and professional sports, reflects the strengths and expertise of our respective organisations, people and services,” Kenneth Samet, president and chief executive of MedStar Health, said.

“We welcome the significant opportunities this collaboration with Monumental Sports & Entertainment will bring to our organisations, the teams and sports we support, and most importantly, our patients and communities.”
