Mediaset takes up Formula E extension option in Italy

Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset has taken up an option to extend its deal for Formula E rights, with its agreement now set to conclude after the 2022-23 season.

The deal has been announced as a five-season agreement, from 2018-19 to 2022-23. However, when Mediaset initially acquired Formula E rights in the country (in October 2017), it struck a three-season deal – from 2017-18 to 2019-20 – with the option to extend the agreement for a further three seasons, from 2020-21 to 2022-23. The broadcaster has now exercised this option.

Last season, the Formula ePrix in Rome (held on April 14) attracted 1.2m viewers to the Mediaset-owned Italia 1 channel – an audience share of 9.6 per cent.
