Manchester City signs US-focused deal with Barclays

English Premier League football club Manchester City has signed a US-focused partnership with financial services company Barclays.

The regional partnership names Barclays as the club’s official banking and credit card tour partner.

The length of the agreement was not disclosed but it begins with City’s pre-season tour of the US this summer. Barclays’ logo will feature on the back of the team’s shirts during the tour as part of the agreement.

Barclays will launch City-focused promotions and competitions in the lead-up to the tour. The company will also host a series of football-themed events for customers in the cities that the team visits.

Barclays will also benefit from brand exposure in the backdrops of player and manager interviews during pre-season.

Tom Corbett, Barclays Group head of sponsorships and media, said: “As the City Football Group expand in the US, where they already own the New York City franchise in Major League Soccer, they will become one of the most sought-after sports groups with a transatlantic presence. The tour will allow us to deliver top events and hospitality for clients, to secure better visibility for the Barclays brand, and to engage our colleagues with one of the best teams in the Premier League.”

The club has confirmed that New York City will form part of its US tour, with full details of match locations and oppositions to be announced in due course.

Barclays has been a partner of the Premier League since 2001. It currently serves as the official banking partner of the league, having previously been its title sponsor.
