Manchester City sets Premier League first with sleeve sponsor deal

Manchester City has today (Friday) become the first English Premier League football club to agree a sleeve sponsorship deal through a three-year extension to its existing partnership with South Korean tyre and rubber tubing manufacturer Nexen Tire.

Under the new agreement, Nexen’s logo will appear on the right sleeve of the player’s shirts during Premier League games from the 2017-18 to 2019-20 seasons.

Premier League club and league representatives agreed to allow sleeve badge sponsors starting from the 2017-18 season in November 2016. The sponsor logos will be a maximum size of 10cm x 10cm. The Premier League badge will remain on the left sleeve of the shirts.

Nexen first partnered with City in August 2015, assuming the naming rights of the community bridge linking the Etihad Stadium with the City Football Academy training complex.

The company’s new contract will also encompass City’s women’s team, while Nexen will be granted additional exposure during the club’s home Premier League and domestic cup games. Nexen is expected to announce further deals with other clubs within the City Football Group.

“Utilising Manchester City and Nexen Tire’s partnership as a key strategic marketing platform, Nexen Tires expects to increase the value of its business as a global company,” Travis Kang, chief executive of Nexen Tire, said.
