Lazarus to step up remit at NBCUniversal

Mark Lazarus, chairman of the NBC Sports Group division of NBCUniversal, is to step up his remit at the US media company following the departure of Ted Harbert, the chairman of NBC Broadcasting.

US magazine the Hollywood Reporter said that Lazarus (pictured) is to add chairman of NBC Broadcasting to his title following Harbert's departure. Lazarus will not directly replace Harbert and will share responsibility of NBC Broadcasting with other executives.

Lazarus will add the company’s owned stations to his portfolio, and will head up affiliate relations, affiliate marketing, network operations and broadcast standards at NBC Broadcasting.

Steve Burke, president and chief executive of NBCU, said: “Mark has had a major impact on NBC Sports and NBCUniversal since joining the company in 2011.

“Mark and his team have a winning culture and the quality of NBC Sports’ coverage is unsurpassed, from the Olympics and Sunday Night Football to the Premier League, golf, NHL and Nascar. Mark’s energy, intelligence and character will be great assets to NBC Broadcasting, as they have been at NBC Sports.”

In a note to colleagues obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, Harbert said he would leave NBCU as of October 14.
