Kuala Lumpur 2017 completes sponsor programme

The organising committee for the 2017 edition of the Southeast Asian Games multi-sport event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has completed its sponsorship line-up after partnering with Japanese financial services firm Aeon and a host of other local and overseas companies.

Aeon will serve as a silver sponsor of the SEA Games, which run from August 19-30, and the ASEAN Para Games, which take place from September 17-23.

Aeon has been named as the official credit card and retail partner of the Games. As a silver sponsor, it will contribute between RM1m (€197,000/$233,000) and RM3m towards the events.

Aeon will also provide items for the VIP lounge and athlete lounges at the Games, as well as the official fleet.

Aeon becomes the third Japanese company, after Ajinomoto and Sony, to sponsor the Games.

A total of 18 companies have also signed up as bronze sponsors. They are: Molten, Mikasa, Victor, Marathon, Double Happiness, Nittaku, Maxwin, Medilife, Gloria Jeans, Wiraka, Sunstar, La Martina, MRCB, Maju Group, Maha Mas, Ottobock, JVC Kenwood and Trybes. Bronze sponsors will contribute up to RM1m apiece.

Datuk M Saravana, chief operation officer of the Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC), said: “The amount of sponsorships that we received for KL2017 is simply overwhelming and has surpassed our target of RM80m.”
