IPC signs EBU deal for Pyeongchang 2018, Tokyo 2020

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has agreed a media-rights partnership with the European Broadcasting Union consortium of public-service broadcasters covering the 2018 winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang and the 2020 summer Games in Tokyo.

The agreement covers all EBU territories, with the exception of the UK and Russia.

The IPC had a similar deal in place with the EBU for the 2014 winter Paralympics in Sochi and the 2016 summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

A total of 54 EBU members covered the Rio 2016 Paralympics, and the IPC said 25 members have already committed to broadcasting the Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Games.

Around 400 hours of live programming will be available for Pyeongchang 2018, an increase of 25 per cent from Sochi 2014.

The EBU will also work with the IPC to enhance the organisation’s online and social media presence during the Games.

In addition, the EBU’s business arm, Eurovision Media Services, will work with the IPC to manage distribution for the Games over the Eurovision Global Network.
