IPC issues ban warning to Russia for Pyeongchang 2018

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has today (Monday) said there is a “strong chance” that Russia will be banned from competing in the 2018 winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, Korea, if it does not fulfil its obligations to anti-doping efforts by September.

Russia missed out on the 2016 summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after the IPC Governing Board suspended the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) from IPC membership, citing its inability to fulfil responsibilities and obligations to comply with the IPC Anti-doping code and the World Anti-doping Code.

The suspension came in the wake of doping scandal that hit the country in the run up to the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, although Russia escaped a blanket ban from the Olympics and some athletes were cleared to compete.
