ESPN seals broad America’s Cup rights deal

Pay-television sports broadcaster ESPN International has acquired multi-platform rights for the next edition of the America’s Cup sailing event in more than 40 territories.

The deal includes exclusive rights territories such as Mexico, Central America and Latin America, and non-exclusive rights in the Caribbean.

The next edition of the America’s Cup will start this summer and finish in 2017.

ESPN International will show live coverage of racing and highlights of all events in the 35th America’s Cup, including the World Series in 2015 and 2016, the Qualifiers and Challenger Playoffs, the Youth America’s Cup, and the Match to conclude the event in Bermuda in May and June 2017.

Coverage will begin with the World Series event on August 29-30 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
