Ericsson connects with Chelsea

Communications technology and services company Ericsson has entered into a partnership with English Premier League football club Chelsea.

Ericsson will serve as the London club’s connected venue partner and will introduce free Wi-Fi coverage for fans attending games at Stamford Bridge as part of the agreement. The length of the partnership was not disclosed.

Ericsson will design, build and operate a Wi-Fi access network and manage it on Chelsea’s behalf. It will mark the first time that free Wi-Fi will be available at Stamford Bridge.

Arun Bansal, senior vice-president for Europe and Latin America at Ericsson, said: “Our research indicates that people want to use their digital devices wherever they go – and the urge to connect is even greater at a Chelsea FC home game.

“Through this partnership, we will ensure the connectivity at Stamford Bridge matches the quality of the football and look forward to exploring further options that will enable Chelsea FC to take the digital experience to the next level.”

Ericsson provided Wi-Fi solutions at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil and last year’s Uefa European Championship in France.
