English clubs set revenue record, but Bundesliga teams remain most profitable

English Premier League clubs’ total revenues reached a record £2.53bn (€3.10bn/$4.23bn), but the German Bundesliga remained Europe’s most profitable football league in 2012-13, according to the latest Annual Review of Football Finance by the Sports Business Group at financial services company Deloitte.

The 23rd edition of the review found that the Premier League generated the largest revenue of any European league following a seven-per-cent rise in revenue and a 21-per-cent increase in commercial revenue, ahead of the Bundesliga (£1.7bn), Spanish Liga (£1.6bn), Italian Serie A (£1.4bn) and French Ligue 1 (£1.1bn). However, the Bundesliga remained Europe’s most profitable league with operating profits of £226m, followed by the Premier League (£82m).
