International sports broadcaster Eleven Sports has appointed Pedro Pinto as a non-executive director for its Portuguese operation.
Pinto (pictured) formerly served as director of communications at Uefa, football’s European governing body. He joins Eleven on the back of the broadcaster’s launch in Portugal back in May.
Eleven confirmed Portugal as its tenth market with the acquisition of rights to the Uefa Champions League and Spanish LaLiga for the three seasons spanning 2018-19 to 2020-21.
Pinto will front Eleven’s Champions League shows and manage relationships with media, rightsholders and influencers, while aiding the broadcaster’s production in Portugal. He will take up his new role on July 16 and will work closely with Danny Menken, Eleven’s group managing director.
Menken said: “Pedro’s experience in and knowledge of both the Portuguese and international sports market ensures he is the right person to help us build our Portuguese operations as non-executive director.
“At the same time, as Eleven Sports is establishing itself as the leading player in the sports media market in Portugal, having Pedro as the key anchor for our Uefa Champions League programming will ensure a fresh, fan-centric content offering to the fans.”
Since confirming its launch in Portugal, Eleven has acquired rights in the country to France's Ligue 1, as well as the top divisions in Germany, Belgium and Scotland.
