EHF set for tender launch under new rights strategy

The European Handball Federation has said it will begin the tender process for its media and marketing rights for the period 2020 to 2030 next week as it switches to a new strategy.

In June, the EHF said it would adopt a new method of marketing its rights for showpiece competitions such as the EHF Euro and Champions League, adding that a “huge package” of rights would be made available through a tender set to launch this month.

Working with the SN1 Consulting agency, the EHF has developed a number of different rights packages across its club and national team competitions on a modular basis. Agencies are able to bid for selected rights or a comprehensive package across club and national team competitions.

Tender documents will be available from September 18 with bids due on November 15. Broadcast and sponsorship rights available include all of the federation’s club competitions (Champions League, EHF Cup and Challenge Cup), national team competitions (EHF Euro qualification/final tournament and youth events) as well as beach handball Euro final tournaments.

From 2020, the men’s EHF Euro will expand from 16 to 24 teams and the format of the Champions League is set for further development.

Currently, the Infront Sports & Media agency is responsible for the marketing of EHF Euro national team events, while the MP & Silva agency markets the media rights to club competition the Champions League.
