EBU renews rights deals for UCI WorldTour events

The European Broadcasting Union consortium of public-service broadcasters has renewed rights-distribution agreements for the Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race, Clasica San Sebastian and Cyclassics Hamburg UCI WorldTour cycling events.

The EBU will hold distribution rights in Europe for the Tour of Flanders, which is held annually in Belgium, until 2020. The EBU struck the fresh agreement with race organiser Flanders Classics.

The EBU will also hold European rights to the Netherlands’ Amstel Gold Race, as well as worldwide rights to the Clasica San Sebastian event in Spain and the Cyclassics Hamburg race in Germany.

Starting in 2017, the EBU will distribute a total of 110 cycling race days representing a total of 400 hours per season. Its cycling portfolio also includes showpiece events such as the Tour de France and the UCI Road World Championships.

Regarded as one of the five ‘monuments’ of cycling, the centenary edition of the Tour of Flanders was won by Slovakia’s Peter Sagan (pictured) last year.
