DOSB New Media builds handball coverage with Euro 2018 deal

The DOSB New Media division of the German Olympic Sports Confederation has agreed a rights deal with SportA, which negotiates rights acquisitions on behalf of public-service broadcasters ARD and ZDF, for the men’s 2018 European Handball Championship.

DOSB New Media operates online streaming service Sportdeutschland.TV. The service’s sister channel Handball-Deutschland.TV will show all games from Euro 2018, which takes place in Croatia from January 12-28.

Germany’s games will be shown live on television by ARD and ZDF, and will then be made available in full on Handball-Deutschland.TV, which will also show highlights.

Handball-Deutschland.TV represented DOSB New Media’s first sports-specific media platform after rights were last month acquired for the 2017 women’s World Handball Championship.

DOSB New Media acquired rights to the national team tournament, which took place in Germany from December 1-17, from the Lagardère Sports agency.

Its contract included live and on-demand rights to all 84 games, and the coverage underpinned the launch of Handball-Deutschland.TV.
