D.C. United secures extension with shirt sponsor

US Major League Soccer franchise D.C. United has renewed its shirt sponsorship deal with security, health and engineering solutions company Leidos.

D.C. United did not disclose the length of the extension, although the Washington Post newspaper claimed it will last two years, covering the 2017 and 2018 MLS seasons. The initial agreement between the two parties ran through the 2016 season, with options for the subsequent two years.

Under the agreement, Leidos’s branding will continue to appear on the front of the club’s playing jerseys and it will retain its advertising rights inside Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, the club’s home ground.

D.C. United will promote the company through various marketing campaigns and on its media platforms, while the two parties will also engage in community-based initiatives.

The final year of D.C. United’s agreement with Leidos will coincide with the club moving to its new Buzzard Point stadium in 2018. The club begins its 2016 MLS season with a trip to LA Galaxy on March 6.
