OTT service DAZN has struck a six-season deal to show English FA Cup matches in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, from 2018-19 to 2023-24.
The announcement of the deal comes two weeks after pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland reclaimed English Premier League rights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (and Luxembourg and Liechtenstein) from DAZN. The FA Cup will join DAZN’s other English football content which include matches from the League Cup and the second-tier Championship.
The deal was struck with the Pitch International agency, which distributes FA Cup rights in Western Europe and the Middle East and North Africa on behalf of the English Football Association over the same six seasons.
DAZN’s FA Cup coverage will begin from the third round on January 5 and 6 next year – when Premier League clubs enter the competition. It will show all matches live from the quarter-finals.
FA Cup rights in Germany were previously held by sports broadcaster Eurosport in a four-season deal, from 2014-15 to 2017-18. That deal also began from the third round.
