Concacaf and Traffic Sports USA sever ties

The partnership between Concacaf, the governing body of football in the Caribbean, North America and Central America, and the Traffic Sports USA agency, has been curtailed.

Traffic Sports USA, a division of the Brazil-based Traffic Group, was responsible for marketing rights surrounding the confederation’s biennial Gold Cup national team tournaments until 2021 as well as the annual Concacaf Champions League club competition through to 2022.

Traffic Sports USA said the relationship ended on July 7, adding: “The mutual decision was reached following discussions between both organisations and will have no effect on Concacaf’s ability to fulfil its existing obligations to sponsors or to stage future tournaments.”

Aaron Davidson, president of Traffic Sports USA, was among the 14 officials and executives included in a US Department of Justice indictment that centred on allegations of bribery, money laundering and wire fraud in relation to certain football tournaments.

The owner of Traffic Group, José Hawilla, has already pleaded guilty to several charges, including wire fraud conspiracy.
