Scottish Premiership champion Celtic has signed up as the fourth member of eFootball.Pro, an esports company founded by Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué.
Celtic took part in the eFootball.Pro Invitational tournament last August and has now decided to join Piqué’s club, Spanish LaLiga champions Barcelona, along with German Bundesliga team Schalke 04 and French Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco as a founder member.
Celtic will be recruiting two professional video game players to represent the club in the eFootball.Pro league. These players will be competing throughout the year against other esports players from the aforementioned clubs, and others that are subsequently announced.
EFootball.Pro is launching in partnership with video game developer Konami and will utilise its Pro Evolution Soccer title. Gordon Kaye, head of business development at Celtic, said: “Following our partnership with Konami, creating a PES team to challenge for the inaugural eFootball.Pro title is an exciting first step into the evolving world of esports and we look forward to competing against top international teams.”
