Calgary presses on towards winter Olympics bid goal

The City of Calgary has voted to continue with plans over mounting a bid for the 2026 winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, with further funding for the effort set to be assessed next week.

The city council yesterday (Monday) voted 10-4 in favour of maintaining the process, with administrators now set to return with a request for up to C$2m (€1.35m/$1.57m) to continue work. However, there remains concern over pursuing a bid with Councillor Druh Farrell questioning the potential financial cost to the city if it is awarded the Games.
