Broadcasters to share Swedish ice hockey rights

Modern Times Group, the multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster, has reached an agreement with public-service broadcaster SVT to share rights in Sweden to two major ice hockey competitions for the period spanning 2018 to 2023.

The 2018, 2020 and 2022 editions of the International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Championship national team tournament will be shown exclusively on MTG’s linear channels, led by TV3, and on video-streaming service Viaplay and pay-television channel Viasat Hockey.

Viaplay will also provide coverage of the event in 2019, 2021 and 2023 – the years that SVT will carry the linear broadcast. The arrangement grants Viaplay rights to every game at the next six editions of the tournament.

The 2017 event concluded on Sunday in the German city of Cologne with Sweden defeating Canada 2-1 in the final.

MTG and SVT will also share rights to the Champions Hockey League club competition from 2017-18 to 2022-23.
