BMW steps up Formula E ties with Berlin race deal

German automotive manufacturer BMW has agreed a deal for its BMW i brand to title sponsor the Formula E electric car-racing event in the German capital of Berlin.

BMW already serves as the official vehicle partner of the series and it will now sponsor the May 19 event at Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport. The event will officially be known as the BMW i Berlin E-Prix.

The length of the agreement was not disclosed but Formula E said it will run for multiple seasons.

“The title partnership for the German round of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Berlin is a key component of our extensive commitment to this series,” Jörg Reimann, vice-president of BMW brand experience, said.

“For BMW, the opportunity to actively shape the event and offer visitors a unique BMW brand experience is always at the heart of this kind of co-operation. That is precisely what we will be doing at the BMW i Berlin E-Prix alongside Formula E.”
