Qatar-based pay-television broadcaster beIN Sports has returned to the screens of Etisalat and Du customers in the UAE.
Pay-television operators Etisalat and Du on Saturday confirmed the resumption of the beIN service.
UAE newspaper The National said text messages were being sent out to subscribers by Etisalat confirming that the service would be available again, starting July 22, and that “normal charges would apply”.
“The provision of the beIN package will be subject to an ongoing review,” the text message added.
The National added that Du customers were receiving similar messages on Saturday. On June 14, UAE authorities ordered retailers to stop selling beIN Sports receivers and viewing cards, warning that any shop that violated the order would be subject to fines, according to state news agency, Wam.
Etisalat and Du home subscribers also noted disruption to their service around this time.
BeIN Media Group last week extended its rights deal in the Middle East and North Africa region with European football’s governing body Uefa for the Champions League and Europa League club competitions.
BeIN secured the exclusive rights to the competitions for the three seasons spanning 2018-19 to 2020-21.
BeIN this month hit out angrily at media reports suggesting beIN Sports channels are being blacked out in the Mena region as a consequence of the Saudi Arabia-led economic blockade of Qatar launched on June 5.
In an exclusive interview with SportBusiness International, the company also dismissed concerns about its future existence, both in its core market of Mena and other territories in which it operates around the world.
