Astro retains hold on Premier League rights in Malaysia

Malaysian pay-television broadcaster Astro has struck a new three-season deal to maintain its hold on English Premier League rights in the country.

The new deal will cover rights to all 380 matches each season and will run from 2019-20 to 2021-22. Astro has broadcast every English top-flight match in Malaysia since 1997.

Astro will show all matches live in HD on Astro TV and Astro Go. Selected live matches will be shown in ultra-high-definition 4K from 2019-20.

Astro’s current three-season Premier League deal, from 2016-17 to 2018-19, represented a 25-per-cent decline in the value of its deal in the 2013-14 to 2015-16 cycle.
