Asics steps up backing of para sport with IPC deal

The International Paralympic Committee has unveiled Japanese sportswear manufacturer Asics as an official supplier.

The deal runs until the end of 2020 and will see Asics supply official sportswear and shoes for the IPC and independent Paralympic athletes teams at official events.

From next year, the deal will cover all officials of World Para Swimming, World Para Powerlifting and World Shooting Para Sport at major events, including the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Asics will also supply competition kits for around 300 para athletes at Tokyo 2020 in a move designed to benefit developing National Paralympic Committees (NPCs).

Asics chairman and chief executive Motoi Oyama said: “In addition to further promoting the Paralympics, we wish to promote awareness towards a better world, as well as the development of social infrastructure, in order to realise a truly inclusive society. Through our efforts with the IPC, we aim to contribute to a healthy and sustainable society.”

Asics is the official supplier of World Para Athletics in a deal that runs until the end of 2020, while it is also a gold partner of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
