AFL Media chief to take up new role at Fox Sports

Peter Campbell is to leave his position as general manager of media and broadcasting at Aussie rules football league the AFL to become chief commercial officer at pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports.

Campbell (pictured), a member of the AFL’s 10-person executive, has overseen significant growth of the league’s in-house media business, AFL Media, since assuming the position in 2013.

He was also heavily involved in the August 2015 deal that saw pay-television operator Foxtel, commercial broadcaster Seven and telecommunications company Telstra sign a six-season rights deal with the AFL, from 2017 to 2022, worth Aus$2.508bn (€1.67bn/$1.87bn).

His last day at the AFL will be on June 22. “The leadership of the AFL in the establishment of AFL Media in 2012 was as insightful and groundbreaking as it was brave,” Campbell said.

“Equally, the support from the clubs, players, coaches, administrators and AFL staff has ensured a model of longevity and innovation. I look forward to continuing to work with the AFL in my new role at Fox Sports.”
