AELTC settles claims over Wimbledon’s Chinese rights deal

The All England Lawn Tennis Club, organiser of the Wimbledon grand slam championships, has settled its claims against LETV, operator of Chinese online streaming platform LeSports.

LeSports had agreed a three-year deal for the rights to Wimbledon, from 2016 to 2018. However, the contract was terminated earlier this year when LeSports missed a scheduled payment for the 2017 championships.

In a brief statement, AELTC confirmed it has settled its claims against LETV in respect of unpaid media rights fees, following payment of an undisclosed sum. The club said it was “content” with the outcome.

Following AELTC’s scrapping of the LeSports partnership, online streaming platform Tencent agreed a deal for non-exclusive live digital Wimbledon rights in China across the 2017 and 2018 editions of the tournament.
