Adidas links up with Aiba worlds

The International Boxing Association (Aiba) has named German sportswear giant Adidas as the official sponsor of this year’s edition of its World Championships, which will take place in Hamburg, Germany.

The event will run from August 25 to September 2 at the city’s Sporthalle arena.

Adidas will provide equipment to competing athletes and Aiba said the company would also provide an “enhanced spectator experience.”

All event communications will also be relayed across Adidas’ official online channels in 70 countries. Social media activations and special offers will also form part of the association.

Adidas will provide equipment such as gloves, bandages and uniforms for athletes and volunteers, while an interactive boxing booth will also be launched.

Aiba president Ching-Kuo Wu said: “Signing with a company of Adidas’ stature is testament to Aiba’s new proactive approach towards sponsorship and the global reach and popularity our sport is enjoying. The participation of such a major international brand reflects the hard work of the entire Aiba family since the beginning of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle to enhance boxing’s image and will contribute to making Hamburg 2017 yet another groundbreaking World Championships.”
