Global sport industry set to focus on Malaysia

The Malaysian Ministry of Youth has announced its first ever Sports Industry Year, running from July 2011 until the opening of the London 2012 Olympics.

The Sports Industry Year 2011/12 will bring together international, regional and local expertise to examine the different elements of the business of sport in conferences, workshops and debates. These will touch on subjects as diverse as sports tourism, broadcast and media, major sports events and sports marketing.

The overall objective of the Sports Industry Year is to identify high growth opportunities in the sports industry, to target areas of expansion and investment and to establish the sports industry as a contributing part of the Malaysian economy. The event will be launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, at an invitation only event on July 28 in Kuala Lumpur that will feature major sports properties, events and sponsors.
