Diageo-owned beverage manufacturer Ypióca has agreed a deal to become title sponsor of the Campeonato Cearense state football competition in Brazil.

The contract with the Cearense Football Federation is for the 2020 edition of the tournament, which commenced on Sunday.

The deal was brokered by the Wolff Sports agency and also incorporates licensing elements for Ypióca products.

Mauro Carmélio, president of the Cearense Football Federation, said: “Cearense 2020 is a strong, solid competition that grows every year. Of the 10 clubs that compete for the state (title), seven of them are in national competitions in 2020. The partnership with Ypióca further strengthens our state, as it adds the weight of the brand to football.”

The state’s two biggest clubs, Série A outfits Ceará and Fortaleza, enter the tournament in the second round, which is due to commence on January 29. Fortaleza is the reigning champion.
