The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has established a Middle East swing on its 2023 calendar with the announcement that Abu Dhabi will host its first ongoing sanctioned tour event.

The WTA and the IMG agency, which will produce and operate the tournament, have said the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open will be held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, from February 5 to 12. The Abu Dhabi Women’s Tennis Open was part of the 2021 WTA Tour season, but this was a one-off event as the Tour sought to formulate a calendar in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
