World Surf League sponsor Hydro Flask steps up to global level

The World Surf League (WSL) has renewed and increased the scope of its sponsorship deal with insulated water bottle specialists Hydro Flask.

The association began in 2017 and previously focused on North America but will now extend to a global level. The expanded deal will run until the end of 2022.

The agreement will focus on sustainability, with Hydro Flask offering branded hydration stations to promote the elimination of single-serve plastics at WSL events across Australia, France and North America.

The brand will also provide customised products at fan activations and organise fan giveaways with donations to non-profit organisations.

Scott Allan, general manager at Hydro Flask, said: “As Hydro Flask continues to expand as a truly global lifestyle brand, we remain deeply committed to helping eliminate the wave of single-use plastic waste and are excited to team up to spread this message across the WSL’s worldwide community of athletes and fans.”

In 2019, the WSL increased its commitment to sustainability by pledging to make its operations carbon neutral by the end of the same year.

Hydro Flask also becomes presenting sponsor of WSL Studio’s adventure series Brilliant Corners, with former longboard champion Sam Bleakley.

The activation will begin at the Corona Open Gold Coast in Australia, which starts on March 26 and finishes on April 5. It is the first event on the 2020 WSL Championship Tour calendar.

Also holding the global sponsor designation at the WSL is flip-flop and beach shoe brand Havaianas, automotive brand Jeep, energy drink Red Bull and American brewing company Anheuser-Busch.
