World Rugby has outlined a new framework for the future of its Sevens World Series, with plans to transform the competition into a “sportainment” brand with fully combined and equal men’s and women’s tournaments.

The remodelled series will include seven festival-style events in seven destinations across seven months. The new-look series will begin in December 2023 and feature 12 men’s teams – down from 16 – and 12 women’s teams.
